Artists included in this ex- hibit are Dusty Fleming, Nor- ma Brown Hill, Christina Hope, Al Millstein, Carol Seid, Cindy Seip, Linda Sum- mers and Sidney Tal-Mason. Each has been recognized in the field through awards, grants and inclusion into numerous juried shows. The photographs, ranging from hand-painted oversized images to black-and-white small scaled prints were all selected on the basis of their quality, interest and variety. DIA Exhibit Sets Paintings The exhibition American Paintings from the Manoogian Collection makes its final public appearance at the Detroit Institute of Arts, March 27 through May 27. More than 70 paintings selected from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Manoogian of Grosse Pointe Farms will be seen in this homecoming event. The pain- tings represent virtually every major movement in 19th-century American art, including Hudson River land- scapes, trompe l'oeil still lifes, genre scenes, figure painting and impressionism. Faculty Exhibit Planned At CCS The Center for Creative Studies — College of Art and Design will host an exhibi- tion of recent works by the College's Fine Arts faculty April 6 through May 12, in the College's Center Galleries. The exhibit will include paintings and graphics by Joseph Bernard, William Girard, Norita Frcka, Pat Groenenboom, Richard Jerzy, Russell Keeter, Aris Koutroulis, Leo Mardirosian, Linda Mendelson, Nancy Mit- ter, Julie Russell-Smith and Anthony Williams. Sculpture and constructions will be exhibited by Michael Curtin, Todd Erickson, Jay Holland, Matthew Holland, Lester Johnson, Mary Sue Linburg, Gilda Snowden and Joseph Wesner. Prints will be offered by Dennis Galffy, James Poole, Michael Thomas and Sharon van den Brouck. An opening reception to meet the artists will be held in the Center Galleries 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. April 6. Chaika Gallery Set To Open Chaika Gallery in Warren is a new international art gallery that opens March 23. The gallery's first exhibit will feature 60 works by 30 local, national and international artists of Ukrainian heritage. Chaika is the Ukrainian word for a mew, a small seagull, which has become synonymous with freedom. Art Classes Slated To Begin Spring registration for Adult Studio Art classes at the Southfield Art Center will begin the first week in April at Parks and Recrea- tion, 26000 Evergreen. Basic drawing, painting, figure drawing, ceramics, Oriental brush painting, monoprinting, basic as well as copper-plate calligraphy are being offered. JARC Art Display At Sinai Hospital Twenty participants in JARC programs will display mixed-media art at the Sinai Hospital Fisher lobby from April 1-29. Co-sponsored by the Sinai Hospital Guild and JARC, this second annual event will showcase watercolor, ceramic, acrylic and fiber art. An ar- tists opening reception is scheduled for 2-3:30 p.m. April 1. Participants learned water- color technique from local ar- tists and JARC volunteers Linda Zalla and Marilyn Schechter. Potter Gary Rich- mond taught ceramics at the Jewish Community Center. The show is funded in part with a grant JARC received from Very Special Arts/ Michigan. Knapp's Work On Exhibit A reception to meet artist Cynthia Knapp will kick off her exhibition at the Danielle Peleg Gallery in West Bloom- field March 23 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The show runs through April 12. Knapp, a contemporary Southern artist, has achieved a reputation as a manipulator of artistic elements.
