Walk For Solidarity
Scheduled For May

Marta Rosenthal and
Robert Orley have been
named chairmen of the Walk
for Jewish Solidarity set for
May 6 in West Bloomfield.
Sponsored by the Jewish
Welfare Federation and the
Israel Anniversary Commit-
tee, the walk will celebrate
Israel's 42nd anniversary and
the historic aliyah of Soviet
Jews to Israel.
Registration will begin at
10:45 a.m. on the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community
Campus. The walk will start
at 11:30 a.m. Participants in
the 3.3-mile event will follow
Drake and Walnut Lake
Roads, stop at Temple Israel

for refreshments and return
to the Jewish Community
Center.
After the walk, the Israel
42nd anniversary celebration
will be on the Center
grounds, with children and
family activities, an Israeli
kumsitz featuring a concert
by Habibi, the annual Israeli
quiz bowl, entertainment and
refreshments.
Associate chairmen of the
walk are Dr. Andrew Colman,
Rabbi Chuck Diamond, Dr.
Mark Diem, Dr. Steven
Grant, Mark S. Kahn, Ken
Korotkin, William Lakritz
and Rabbi Norman Roman.

mond Trustee/Prime Minis-
ter's Club dinner honoring
Helen Zuckerman 6 p.m. May
3 at the home of Linda and
Martin Goldman.
All Israel Bond funds rais-
ed at the event will be
directed to the absorption of
Soviet Jews and other im-
migrants, especially in the
areas of providing housing
and employment.
Borman is a member of the
board of the Metro Detroit
Israel Bond Women's Division
and has participated in the
Jewish Welfare Federation
Board of Governors, the
Women's Division of the
Jewish Welfare Federation,
the United Jewish Charities,
the Hebrew Free Loan
Association, the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra and the
Detroit Institute of Arts.

Plans Awards Dinner

Hebrew University
To Honor Dr. Giles

The American Friends of
Hebrew University will
bestow their highest honor,
the Scopus Award, on Dr. Con-
rad L. Giles, immediate past
president of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, at a din-
ner May 20 at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
The Scopus Award is given
to individuals who have ex-
celled in their chosen fields
and have demonstrated deep
humanitarianism throughout
their careers.
Dr. Giles is chairman of the
Federation's Executive Com-
mittee. In his three terms as
president, he initiated the
Task Force on the Disabled,
the Jewish population survey
and leadership development.
He has served as chairman
of the Federation'3 Human
Resource Development
Committee.
Honorary chairman of the
dinner is Max M. Fisher.

More than 80 new Soviet Jewish immigrants recently attended their
first prayer service in a gathering at Machon L'Torah, the Jewish
Learning Network of Michigan. Machon Director Rabbi Avraham
Jacobovitz explained the meaning of Purim in light of current events
