the self-centered, self-
righteous and outlandishly
funny spouse convinced that
the family therapist (whom
she alone sees) has the
answers to her marital pro-
blems. Each played off the
other perfectly, adding the
right amount of humor at
even the most tense of times.
Perhaps the most difficult
role to perform was that
played by Yezbick. Under the
circumstances, she is ready to
fall apart as soon as she is
shown her room during the
opening moments of the play.
She realizes that her husband
will see this chance to get
away with her son as a sim-
ple case of kidnapping. This
continuous pressure puts her
on edge for most of the perfor-
mance, which can distance
her from the audience.
Perhaps this is why some of
the most enjoyable moments
of the play occur with her pre-
dawn conversations with
Vezina. When allowed to
relax, her character seems
much more believable and
honest.
As Morgan, Powers does a
credible job as the son trapped
in the middle of an all too
familiar scenario. Without a
doubt, it is the finest acting
of his young career.
Noteworthy performances
also are given by veteran
David Jeffery as the arrogant
father Elliot Silverman, and
Irene Schweyer as Dawn
McCoy, the happy-go-lucky,
effervescent hostess of the
Hide-A-Way Inn.
The set design by Russ
Smith and the lighting of
James Allen compliment the
production.
I recommend The Last
Resort. It will remind you of
family, friends and neighbors
— and the daily struggles we
all share. However, the
satisfaction of witnessing this
production allows for you to
gain insight into a possible
answer: don't stop trying
when it comes tolooking for
happiness.
