onder when girls
behind counters at
bakeries will learn
a new line to take the place of
"What else?"
NEW OFFICE girl for one
of our community legal
brains had better choose be-
tween her boyfriend and her
job . . . When the barrister
remarked that every time he
wanted her she was on the
phone, the lass told him they
were business calls . . . and he
said, "Well, in the future,
don't address my clients as
`darling: "
COCO'S DEPT.. . . "Plans
went off. I didn't go to Florida.
So Aunt Lil Rosen is keeping
me company until March 15.
And I won't even be able to
see the 1990 Detroit Kennel
Club Show, North America's
largest one day, all breed dog
show, this Sunday, 8 a.m. to 8

"All they have to
do is explore
space. I have to
sell it."

p.m. at Cobo Hall. I unders-
tand there'll be 3,200 dogs
competing this year. Bet I can
show them a trick or two."
OVERHEARD . . . Ad
salesman to boss, "You think
those astronauts have a job?
All they have to do is explore
space. I have to sell it:'
A MOTORIST on 12 Mile
stopped to help a woman
driver stalled west of
Telegraph during recent big
snow and ice barrage . . . He
found her taking sand out of
the trunk of her car and
sprinkling it around the front
wheels . . . "It ought to go
under the back wheels," he
said . . . Sneering at his
stupidity, she replied, "The
back wheels go around all
right. It's the front ones that
won't turn."
ONE THING about TV
commercials . . . At least we
know they won't be
interrupted.
OH, FOR THE good old
days of the Chinese hand
laundries . . . Shirts then
weren't expensive and
laundering was so cheap .. .
Now the shirts cost a lot and
nobody knows how to do them
properly . . . Even places that
do their own shirts can't get
help who care . . . Most
cleaners send them out to be
done . . . If the Chinese hand
laundrys won't return, maybe

somebody should come up
with disposable shirts . In
many instances when the
shirts come back they're not
much good anyway except to
knock around in.

THE ONLY TIME a
pedestrian has the right of
way . . . is in an ambulance to
the hospital.
REMEMBER . . . Crescent
Shrine Club day at the Shrine
Circus is March 29 .. .
Knights of Pythias Annual
Dinner Dance is April 7 at
Stephenson Haus . . . For in-
fo, call Erwin Waldman,
398-8282.
CONGRATS . . . to Marge
Robbins . . . on her birthday.
LOOKING BACK On
Yesteryears .. .
AUG. 15, 1975 . . . "Irving
Lipsky tells about the couple
anxious to get on in the
world, who were entertaining
the boss and his wife at din-
ner . . . and doing pretty well,
too . . . that is, until their
10-year-old came into the
room . . . He cased the boss'
wife with obvious interest,
then asked his dad, 'Does she
really wrestle on TV?' "
JAN. 3 1975 . . . "Bruce
Lyons, Manufacturers Na-
tional Bank vice president
and supervisory manager at
the MNB bank on Greenfield
and Eight Mile, tells of the
girl coming over to him and
asking if she could cash her
husband's check . . . After
looking at the signature,
Bruce said it was all right but
would need an endorsement
first . . . The girl wrote on the
back of the check, 'My hus-
band is really a great guy.' "
OCT. 31, 1975 . . . "Ever
hear of bunionectomy? . . .
Neither did I, but that's what
Hy Blinder said he had .. .
hobbling around at the mar-
riage of Dahlia Betel to
Daniel Pesselnick . . . Hy
loves Middle Eastern music
. . . went to five or six wed-
dings recently and hardly any
Jewish music . . . finally then
comes to one with Eric
Rosenow playing and Hy can't
dance . . . 'Eric is the Jewish
Lawrence Welk,' said Debbie
Hitsky (Alan) . . . After the
wedding, Dahlia was told
about a hole in the train of
her gown . . . 'So what,' said
Dolly, 'I'll never wear it
again.' "
JAN. 22, 1978 . . . "Note
left by a 10-year-old and found
by his mother . . . 'I have a
terrible headache and
stomachache so I've taken
two aspirins and a glass of
milk and gone out to play
football.' " ❑
