lb imply that such views
aren't allowable in America is
an insult to both the in-
telligence of American Jews
and a major segment of the
Israeli electorate?'
It is long overdue that
distortion and misrepresenta-
tion be replaced with rational
dialogue concerning what is
and what is not in the best in-
terests of the Jewish State
and how American Jews can
best help to insure the long-
term survival of Israel.

Yad Ezra Photo
Not Undignified
Let me put Hilary Drucker
(Letters, "Yad Ezra Photo
Was Offensive," March 2) and
others at ease who may have
felt the photo of a Yad Ezra
client may have been un-
dignified. The woman in
question allowed the
photographer to take her pic-
ture. We would not have
allowed the photo to be used,
nor would The Jewish News,
unless permission was
granted. Out utmost goal is
the privacy and confidentiali-
ty of those who avail
themselves of Yad Ezra.
Also, a note of clarification.
Yad Ezra is a food pantry, not
a food bank. We purchase
some of our food from the
Food Bank of Oakland Coun-
ty, which is a supplier to more
than 60 food pantries, soup
kitchens and emergency food
providers, all contributing to
the -fight against hunger.
We appreciate the support
The Jewish News, the com-
munity and many organiza-
tions have given us since
opening last month.
Semitism catches fire? On
Jan. 29, 1934, the Times
reported that 120,000 Jews
were ousted from their jobs.
On March 17, 1935, condi-
tions of 400,000 German Jews
were described as living
death. This, just two years
after the Times predicted that
anti-Semitism was on the ebb
in Germany.
No one is predicting that
anti-Semitism is on the ebb in
the Soviet Union.
With the number of Jews
wishing to leave the Soviet
Union, given the current
status of the rejection of direct
flights to Israel, it would take
two years to evacuate all Jews
who wish to leave. Must
history repeat itself?
During Hitler's rise to
power, no country would take
Jews. The Arabs pressured
Great Britain into issuing the
infamous "White Paper," de-
nying Jews entry into Israel.
History here, too, is repeating
itself. Arab pressure once
again is keeping the ugly
gloom of anti-Semitism hover-
ing over the heads of another
generation of Jews. Both
events followed a quota set by
the United States. On
September 17, 1938, The New
York Times reported that U.S.
quotas were filled. The rest is
history. Let's learn from it.

Must History
Repeat Itself?
Reports from the Soviet
Union indicate that the
future for Jews in that coun-
try is very grim. Jews are
threatened on the job and in
school.
This is not the first time
this century that a large
Jewish community was
threatened in this way. It
started the same way in Ger-
many in 1933. Although on
March 4, 1933, The New York
Times predicted that Hitler
would abandon his anti-
Semitic stand, less than two
weeks later the Times
reported that Jewish stores
were raided. On March 21,
1933, Jews were eliminated
from responsible positions.
