400,

BIRD

Another new one is their
Partners Cookies . . . Where
did they get the name? .. .
Where else but from
themselves being partners in
their highly successful Motor
City Muffin operation.

And what about the Biff
and Moe? . . . Where did that
name come from? . . . Give
their husbands all the credit
. . . Susan's hubby, car-
diologist Dr. Andy Bonin, us-
ed to love eating at Biff's
years back on Woodward
while attending high school
. . . None of those big juicy
hamburgers, Andy lived in a
kosher-kept home . . . but he
enjoyed Biff's grilled cheese
sandwiches.
When Susan and Andy
were married, they began
calling each other Biff . . . and
still do . . . Even their former
Afghan dog was named Biff.
As a young lass, Joyce used
to enjoy watching the "Three
Stooges" on television . . .
One of them was named Moe
. . . Andy constantly teased
his kid sister and nicknamed
her Moe . . . which stuck as a
casual family monicker.
although Larry prefers the
more feminine Joyce . . . Yes,
Susan and Joyce are
sisters-in-law.
But whatever the name,
those new products of Susan
and Joyce are more winners
for them . . . and from the
looks of things, doesn't seem
like there'll be much stopping
these gals . . . Next on their
soon-to-come agenda will be
Buckeroo Brownies.
WHEN LEAVING a tip in
a restaurant or night club,
always bear in mind that in
most cases the waitperson
depends on these much more
so than the salary received
. . . Be fair . . . 15 percent of
the check is norm, but if the
service was very good, 20 per-
cent or more is definitely not
out of line.
REID ASHTON, co-owner
and president of Golden
Mushroom, 10 Mile and
Southfield, was recently
honored with highest award
by Michigan Restaurant
Association the
Distinguished Service Award.
Each year, one person is
given this covet in recognition
of dedication and exceptional
service to the food-service
industry.
Reid served for two con-
secutive terms as chairman of
the board of Michigan
Restaurant Association and is
currently a board member.
He opened the Golden
Mushroom in 1973 and it is
