T

his is a believe it or not
story that began in the
King's Point, Delray
Beach, Fla., Olympic pool,"
writes Faye B. Weiner, vice
president of the Michigan
Club in Delray. "I meet many
people. Even those that I have
not met before are greeted
with a cheery hello. This
Thursday morning, in the
pool for my daily. swim, I
unintentionally splashed a
pleasant woman. So sorry, but
no problem — I'm wet anyhow
— we both chuckled.
"Without any prompting,"
says Faye, "my new friend
began the saga of her club
called 'The Cheap Breakfast
Club. Each Friday at the local
kosher restaurant, five non-
Jewish couples meet for a
friendly breakfast at 99 cents
per, excluding tip. Each week,
the club purchases a lottery
ticket with each couple selec-
ting a choice number. On
Saturday night, the drawing
is held and winners are an-
nounced. Without too much
expectation, each couple ar-
rived at his condo, put on the
TV, just in case. Pajamas,
toothbrushes and lavender
soap flourished. The winning
numbers of the lottery will be
announced in three minutes.
Find our tickets, John.
"Listening intently, calmly,
Margaret thought she had
the first number. Oh hum.
Phone rings, with a fluttery
voice saying, 'I have a
number, John. Five phone
calls later and palpatations,
the 'Cheap Breakfast Club'
members met at one condo to
decide the fate of the $2
million reward.
"Mind you," writes Faye,
"this is a casual conversation,
one-sided to be sure, with so-
meone I had just met over a
splash. Why was I being told
these details about winning
the lottery? Only because we
were in love with this King's
Point delightful pool and
would not leave for greener or
wetter pastures.
"Four Cadillacs and three
luxury condos later, my dear
friend of the 'Cheap
Breakfast Club' was no longer
back-stroking in the King's
Point Pool."
