Detroit Bowlers
Take 7 Firsts

St. Paul, Minn. — Detroit
bowlers captured seven first-
place finishes, including two
team titles, in the B'nai
B'rith Women's 42nd annual
Tri-Regional Bowling Associ-
ation tournament Feb. 10-11.
In addition, Detroit was an-
nounced as host for next
year's tourney and Bobbie
Levine of West Bloomfield
was installed as tri-regional
president, a one-year term.
Levine is a past president of
the Detroit BBW Bowling
Association.
The tourney will be held at
the Satellite Lanes in Dear-
born, with bowlers staying at
the Hyatt Regency there.
Other tri-regional member
cities are Minneapolis,
Milwaukee, Chicago and St.
Louis.
Detroit had 77 of the more
than 250 bowlers competing
this year.
The Gold 'n' Nuggets team
of Ida Glass, Harriet Sand-
weiss, Lynn Simon, Loretta
Gold and Bobbie Blaise total-
ed a 5,894 series to win the

B'nai B'rith Holds
Second Eliminator

The Metropolitan B'nai
B'rith Bowling Association
will hold its second
eliminator tournament of the
season, beginning the week of
Feb. 25.
Sy Zate, tourney director,
said the event is open to all
bowlers in the nine B'nai
B'rith leagues.
Because the eliminator is
pins-over-average tourney
Zate expects over 150 bowlers
to vie for the estimated $200
first prize. Scores bowled dur-
ing regular league play will
be used in the six-week event.
Zate said half the field is
eliminated the first two
weeks. After the second two
weeks, the top 10 over-
average bowlers will roll off to
determine the winner.

Spirited Akiva
Falls To Tigers

Toronto — Tal Sharon's
school-record six three-point
baskets Feb. 17 weren't
enough as Akiva Day School's
spirited Poineers found
themselves outmanned by the
bigger Community Hebrew
Academy of Toronto (CHAT)
Tigers, 68-56, in the first of
two games in the Canadian
city.
On Feb. 18, the weary
Pioneers, with reserves play-
ing much of the final quarter
against Toronto's best, were
mauled 92-38, their season
record slipping to 4-11.
In the first game, Akiva
overcame early jitters and a
0-8 deficit to trail 25-26 at
halftime. Sharon finished
with a game-high 18 points,
while teammates Danny Na-
jman and David Kirschner
had 16 and 14, respectively.
