Did you know that at the House of Watchbands, we Maxwell St. Klezmer Band Shaarey Zedek Hosts Maxwell St. Klezmers In celebration of Jewish Music Month, the Shaarey Zedek Cultural Commission will host a program at 7:30 p.m. March 6. The presentation will be an evening of klezmer music with the Maxwell St. Kelzmer Band of Chicago. The band consists of a group of seven musicians who re-create the authentic flavor and spirit of klezmer music. Headed by Lori Lippitz, the group has performed nationally and has received many awards for their performances. While dedicated to preserv- ing the klezmer tradition, the Maxwell St. Band introduces modern touches, such as vocal accompaniment. They in- clude Russian, Romanian or Hungarian pieces in their program. Admission is free and the concert is open to the community. Temple Beth El Hires Douglas Lachman Temple Beth El has created a new department, Program Development, with Douglas Lachman as director. A varie- ty of programs including workshops for parents of Lachman is a native of Detroit; he received his master's degree in social work from Wayne State University, working as a child and fami- ly therapist. Yavneh Academy Holds Open House Douglas Lachman young children and adolescents, singles groups, bereavement support groups and chavurot, will be planned. Yavneh Academy, the Reform Jewish day school, will hold an open house at 2 p.m. March 4. The school is located at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield in what was Room 333. Prospective parents and students can tour the school and meet with teachers. Current Yavneh parents and students will also be there to answer questions.
