almost impossible to get them
all.
Recent excellent feature by
Elizabeth Applebaum, newly
appointed assistant editor of
The Jewish News, "Strike Up
The Band," omitted two very
salient names in the local
world of music . . . Hal Gor-
don and Jean Goldkette.
Hal played many weddings,
bar mitzvahs, etc., plus being
music coordinator for WXYZ-
TV, doing the Soupy Sales
Show, and backup plus ar-
ranger for many stars appear-
ing here who asked for his
service so many times.
Also, Hal, Sammy Woolf,

-

Max Sosin and Cantor
Hyman Adler were a team
visiting Jewish old folks
homes on a regular basis
among other appearances.
Jean Goldkette was
Detroit's claim to national
fame . . . with many of the na-
tion's great musicians at one
time or another in his band.
In an era gone, it was Jean
Goldkette at the Graystone
Ballroom . . . and later Jean
Goldkette's Latin Quarter .. .
He was known throughout
the orchestra world.

Weekend . . . today's monthly
