assortment of tortes, the
Garden Court restaurant in
Southfield Marriot had
luscious bananas foster and
cinnamon apple pie, Paula
and Duane Christ's Baker's
Loaf folks were favorites with
their miniature pastries and
tortes, Desserts by Sylvia Lee
had French and Viennese
finger pastries, miniature
French pastries were from
Leon's, and Lebanese pastries
came from Afrahs.
Proceeds from the event
benefited from the MCCA's
scholarship fund for culinary
arts students.
Many kudos must be given
the participating chefs and
establishments . . . along
with folks from the City of
Southfield . . . whose
resourceful efforts have made
the two Michigan the Boun-
tiful events such fine
successes.
Next year's . . . and there
surely will be another and
another for a long time,
should be a third dandy.
TWO AND A HALF years
ago, Evie Orbach got an idea
about having a theater group
to increase awareness of
Jewish culture . . . A year
later, she met with local ac-
tress Henrietta Hermelin-
Weinberg and Dottie Gerson
at Evie's and Cantor Harold
Orbach's house . . . Within six
months, a founding group was
formed.
It was the beginning of
Jewish Ensemble Theatre
(JET) with Man In The Glass
Booth as its first show in the
Aaron DeRoy Theatre of West
Bloomfield's Jewish Com-
munity Center.
Others in the founding
group besides the three gals
are Jim August, Babs and Ir-
ving Protetch, Mary Lou
Zieve and Brant Frank.
Evie is executive producer
and Bluma Siegal associate
producer of Man In The Glass
Booth.
Opening night recently was
attended by a full house of
225 people, including Dave
Hermelin flying in from Paris
to see his sister Henrietta
perform one of the important
roles.
The Last Resort comedy will
be March's presentation by
JET.
BOB SILVERMAN, owner
of the Silverman's Restaurant
chain, still carries a driver's
license with the picture show-
ing him at 400 pounds .. .
About 10 years ago, through
an operation in Missouri, Bob
had his stomach shrunk to
reduce an overwhelming ap-
petite . . . and lost 200
pounds. ❑
