• ePteete Calhoun says, "but he told me, 'They'll see me play, but they'll never see the excite- ment. " Interestingly, Henefeld ap- pears to be almost unaware of the crowd when he plays. "In a game you won't see much expression on my face," he says, "but I see, hear and feel everything. I am a calm per- son on the basketball court, but I am calm in life, also." Henefeld's cool was never more apparent than in the Huskies' 70-65 victory over Georgetown when motor- mouthed Alonzo Mourning began yapping. "I just ignored him," Henefeld says. "We 2 played hard against Georgetown and maybe they didn't like it so much." Henefeld also says the bas- ketball fans here are more sophisticated than in Europe. "I've had people come up to me and say that was a really nice play when you picked that guy on the weak side. It's great to get feedback from people who really appreciate what you're doing out on the court." While one would think there would be resentment in Israel over losing one of the best players off the national team, such is not the case. "People are not upset at all that Nadav is playing in the U.S.," says Koby Shemtov, basketball editor of Hada- shot, the third largest news- paper in Israel. "People know that when he comes back home he will be improved 100 percent, or in Nadav's case 1,000 percent. People here are very proud of him." According to Shemtov, ac- counts of Henefeld's exploits fill the sports pages after every game. "All the papers cover him widely," Shemtov says. "We've never had a player do so well outside of Israel." Around campus Henefeld says he has found people very / interested in Israel and he en- joys talking about his country. "Israel is not at all as peo- ple here think," he says. "It is not all terrorism, army and soldiers. It's a beautiful coun- try with beautiful places, - beautiful beaches and nice people. "Many people have the wrong impression before they come. What people see here • on television is not always the truth. Sometimes things are made bigger than they are. Israel has some problems but that's only in one little area. Maybe the only thing to change people's minds is to experience it." Politically, Henefeld holds strong views but he doesn't like to discuss them in public.
