Tel Aviv (JTA) — Six of the
nine Israelis killed in a ter-
rorist attack on a tour bus in
Egypt last week were buried
in cemeteries throughout
Israel on Tuesday, and fu-
neral services for the other
three were scheduled for
Wednesday.
The Egyptian authorities,
meanwhile, announced that
two or three suspects have
been arrested and will be
charged with the machine
gun and grenade assault
that also took two Egyptian
lives and wounded 19
Israelis.
One of the suspects is a
former Palestinian resident
of the border town of Rafah,
who acquired Egyptian
citizenship several years
ago, reports from Cairo said.
The reports said a
manhunt was under way for
another suspect, described
as a Palestinian with a Jor-
danian passport. The
passport was found in the
white Peugeot car used by
the assailants, which the
Egyptian authorities
recovered Monday.
The attack is believed to
have been carried out by
right- wing Islamic fun-
damentalists with the inten-
tion of harming both Israel
and Egypt.
The suspect from Rafah
was reported to be a member
of such a group, the Islamic
Jihad, which has been active
in Lebanon.
At least 17 were wounded
by the masked assailants in
the attack near the Egyptian
city of Ismailia, on the Suez
Canal.
An Egyptian tour guide
and a second Egyptian were
also reported dead.
Egyptian President Hosni
Mubarak condemned the
"crime against the peace
efforts" and promised that
Egypt would continue its
efforts to achieve peace in
the region.
Egyptian Foreign Minister
Esmat Abdel Meguid tele-
phoned his Israeli counter-
part, Moshe Arens, to say
that Egypt would allow an
Israel Defense Force plane to
fly to Egypt immediately to
bring home the wounded and
the dead.
The attack was the most
serious on Israeli visitors in
Egypt since 1985, when a
berserk Egyptian border
policeman gunned down a
group of tourists on the
beach at the Sinai town of
Ras Burka.
Albert Levy, owner of the

Ofakim travel agency, which
organized the tour, said
there were 31 passengers
plus a guide on the bus.
Twelve of them were from
Mevasseret Zion, a village
near Jerusalem.
The bus was Egyptian and
carried no indication that its
passengers were Israelis.
Therefore, it appears the
assailants were well-
informed about the intended
route of the bus.

Israeli Jets
Hit Nidal Base

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel air
force jets blasted bases of the
Abu Nidal terrorist group in
southern Lebanon last week
apparently in retaliation for
the death of Israel Defense
Force Col. Yitzhak Rahimov,
who died in a gun battle
with terrorists in the
southern Lebanon security
zone on Jan. 21.
The Nidal gang claimed
credit for that encounter.
The air strike was the
third over Lebanon this
year. All aircraft returned
safely to their bases, a
military spokesman said.
Military sources said a
missile attack by four
fighter- bombers destroyed
Nidal's Fatah Revolutionary
Council headquarters in Ma-
jdalyoun village, 25 miles
south of Beirut.
Reports from Lebanon said
at least one terrorist was
killed and four wounded.
The Arab-owned Radio
Monte Carlo reported that
Israeli jets also struck in-
stallations of the Popular
Front for the Liberation of
Palestine, about four miles
from Sidon.

Israel, China
Begin Dialogue

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel
and China have begun talks
aimed at normalizing rela-
tions between them, accor-
ding to a recent report in
Ma'ariv.
It said that Reuven
Merhav, director general of
the Foreign Ministry, met
with Chinese government of-
ficials in Hong Kong several
days ago to discuss the
matter.
Israel will open an office in
Beijing soon for the
exchange of scientific infor-
mation. Official circles in
Jerusalem see it as a first
step toward establishing
higher-level relations.
