LOCAL NEWS I
Hebrew Free Loan
Sabbath Planned
The annual observance of
Hebrew Free Loan Sabbath
will take place on Shabbat
Mishpatim, Feb. 23-24.
Synagogues and temples
throughout the United States
and Canada are expected to
mark this occasion establish-
ed by the Association of
Hebrew Free Loans (AHFL).
The Torah portion on this
Sabbath instructs Jews "not
to exact interest from the
needy." It is this biblical in-
junction which serves as the
cornerstone of today's free
loan agencies.
Rabbis in metropolitan
Detroit have been asked by
Sherwin A. Behrmann, presi-
dent of Detroit's Hebrew Free
Loan Association, to help
make the community more
aware of this self-help
organization.
