The Simmers have been volunteering at Continental Cable for just more than two years. The hours they work vary. At times, they have worked on a couple of pro- grams within a week. But occasionally, they've gone a month without getting a call. For a class project last year, David Simmer wrote, directed, produced and co- starred in a music video that won the Best Program Award. "My friend Brad Goldsmith and I made a rock video from Mick Jagger and David Bowie's song `Dancing in the Street,' he said. "We lip-synced it and had all different special effects. So my son was there doing all of the play-by-play by himself," Simmer said. A few months ago, Simmer received a phone call from a gentleman who wanted him and his son to work on a cer- tain show. "The man on the phone mentioned he'd like my son, `but . . I asked, 'What do you mean by but?' I found out that it was a comedy program on sex. And he real- ly wanted David to help him, but lie was afraid that he was too young." Simmer gave his permis- sion. And his son, who was <
