Rosenberg Named
Interim Conductor

The University Musical
Society of the University of
Michigan announced the ap-
pointment of Laura
Rosenberg to the position of
interim conductor of the Fes-
tival Chorus.
Rosenberg will prepare the
chorus for the 1990 May Fes-
tival for its performance of
the Brahms "Requiem" with
Andre Previn and the Los
Angeles Philharmonic.
Rosenberg studied choral
conducting at the
Interlochen Center for the
Arts in Michigan and at
Temple University's College
of Music in Philadelphia.

on a clown face, hear a story
and make a circus craft
while the circus is in town.

Jarvi Joins
The DSO

Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra Hall has announced
the appointment of interna-
tionally acclaimed conductor
Neeme Jarvi as its music di-
rector, beginning Sept. 1.
Born in Tallinn, Estonia,
in 1937, Jarvi has conducted
major orchestras all over the
world. In January 1980, he
immigrated to the United
States and made his
American orchestral debut
with the New York
Philharmonic.
Jarvi currently holds the
post of principal conductor of
the Gothenburg Orchestra of
Sweden.
