National Athletic Awards
Dinner to benefit the March
of Dimes on Feb. 3 at the
Westin Hotel.
Larry Baker, general

Schembechler will receive the
lifetime achievement award;
the Hurricanes will be
honored as national college
football champions; and the
world-champion Pistons as
Detroit professional athletes
of the year.
Radio personality Larry
King will again serve as
master of ceremonies.

Returns To Palace
The second annual Greater
Detroit Sportfishing Expo
returns to the Palace of
Auburn Hills.
The show is cosponsored by
the Oakland County Sport-
fishing Association, which

To Battle Soviets
The American Indoor Soc-

Basketball Begins
At least 20 teams are ex-
pected to participate in the
15th Metropolitan Detroit
B'nai B'rith Council Men's
Basketball League, which
begins play 8:30 a.m. Jan. 28
at Oakland Community Col-
lege in Farmington Hills.
The league is open to all
B'nai B'rith lodge members
in good standing, according to
Marty Melton, Detroit Coun-
cil athletics chairman and
league commissioner.

The match, an annual ex-
pression of interfaith
brotherhood and fundraising,
will this year make a dona-
tion to JARC, the Jewish
Association for Retarded
Citizens. A dinner will follow.

The Downtown-Fox and
Pisgah B'nai B'rith men's
bowling leagues will hold
their first inter-league match,
9:30 a.m. Jan. 21 at the Coun-
try Lanes in Farmington
Hills.
An inter-league trophy and
prizes will be awarded, with
lunch following at the Fur-
niture Club, according to Joe
