a resumption of the anti-
Semiticism, the Klarsfelds
issued a statement condemn-
ing the horrors and added the
following:
In 1983, we had asked J-
C Pressac to write a
reference work with all the
available drawings and
photographs devoted to
the technique and opera-
tion of the gas chambers at
Auschwitz-Birkenau. This
initiative on our part was
by no means exceptional
because already in 1978 we
had published in English a
very detailed work entitled
The Holocaust and the
Neo Nazi Mythomania.
When we see what an
isolated and tenacious
researcher like J-C
Pressac has been able to
reconstitute, starting his
work 35 years after the
liberation of Auschwitz, we
cannot but regret that it
was not possible for
Jewish research missions
to study the Auschwitz site
and its archives in 1945.
But at that time there was,
alas, no Jewish state, and
the Jews as such were not
authorized to appear for
the prosecution in the
name of the Jewish people
at the Nuremberg trial.
As for the archives of the
Soviet War Crimes Com-
mission which worked for
two months at Auschwitz,
only fragments of them
have come to light and the
Soviets themselves, who
lost interest in the subject
after Nuremberg, do not
seem to even know where
they are.
Thanks to the new
possibilities opened up by
Perestroika and the thaw-
ing of Soviet-Israeli and
Polish-Israeli relations, we
may hope that the
historians and archives of
the Yad Vashem will suc-
ceed in recovering a
valuable documentation
that has so far remained
unpublished.
The Call for Truth endless-
ly sounded in the Klarsfelds'
dedicated labors for decency
in mankind gets added em-
phasis and strength in the
Pressac documentation. ❑

Israel Deals
With Cults

c

ults and cultists often
tempt the naive, the,
frustrated, the
estranged from family iden-
tifications. Some Jews even
embrace a deity by identify-
ing under the title Jews for
Jesus. They have the chief
temptation of asking to be
called Jews while abandoning

that right under the assumed
title.
Such false conception caus-
ed one couple among them to
ask for the right to the Jewish
Law of Return in Israel, and
that's when they fell into a
trap. That's when a judicial
ruling admonished the delud-
ed applicants to learn that
fact that what they adopted
under the much advertised ti-
tle in expensive newspaper
advertising simply meant
that they are not Jews but
Christians by adoption.
The Israel Supreme Court
ruled that those who claim to
be messianic Jews are not en-
titled to automatic Israeli
citizenship. The judicial rul-
ing concluded with the belief
that Jesus was the Messiah
makes them Christians in-
stead of Jews.
Justice Menahem Elon
stated in the court ruling:
"Messianic Jews attempt to
reverse the wheels of history
by 2,000 years. But the
Jewish people have decided
the 2,000 years of its history
that messianic Jews do not
belong to the Jewish nation
and have no right to force
themselves on it. Those who
believe in Jesus are in fact
Christians."
Many are often puzzled by
the campaigns conducted ex-
pensively in efforts to lure
Jews. A necessary guide for
rejecting and ridiculing those
who seek to lure Jews into
false beliefs is provided in the
Israeli court decision. The
lastingly historic Jewish posi-
tion is simple. The cultists are
Christians by adoption and
should be ousted from all ef-
forts to create confusion in
Jewry. ❑

I NEWS I

Jews, Soviet
Envoys Talk

New York (JTA) — Three
Jewish organizational
leaders with Eastern
European roots expressed
concern to Soviet diplomats
over the upsurge of anti-
Semitism in the Soviet
Union.

They met for more than an
hour last month with Dmitri
Bykov, the Soviet deputy
ambassador to the United
Nations, and Alexander
Khadakov, first secretary of
the Soviet U.N. Mission.

Harold Ostroff, president
of the Workmen's Circle and
manager of the Jewish For-
ward, said they received
assurances that the problem
was being given high priori-
ty by the Soviet authorities.
