JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE During the past three months, the following individuals have made contributions to Jewish Family Service and Resettlement Service. With sincere appreciation and gratitude, we would like to thank: old Nazis have lost their power to harm us in every way except one, namely in their ability to force us to twist and distort our system of justice in order to catch them." The green light for the trials was given last month when members of Parlia- ment, in a rare "free vote," overwhelmingly supported a proposal to allow war crimes suspects to be indicted in British courts. Home Secretary David Waddington, who strenuous- ly supported the parliamen- tary proposal, is now press- ing for a swift amendment to the law which will remove the procedural obstacles that now stand in the path of such trials. Under existing laws, British courts do not have the power to indict suspects who were not British at the time of their alleged offenses, whose crimes were not committed on British soil and whose victims were not British. In addition, it is expected that the laws of evidence will have to be amended to allow the admission of testimony by satellite or taken on video from eyewitnesses in Eastern Europe who are unwilling or unable to travel to Britain to give evidence in person. During the parliamentary debate, Waddington paid tribute to the contribution made by the Los Angeles- based Simon Wiesenthal Center, whose Israel direc- tor, Efraim Zuroff, produced many of the names being in- vestigated by British au- thorities. The list of suspects handed to the British government by officials of the center prompted a commission of inquiry, headed by Sir Thomas Hetherington, a highly respected former di- rector of public prosecutions, who investigated allegations against a small sample of the alleged war criminals. The commission noted that "the crimes committed are so monstrous that they cannot be condoned" and found sufficient evidence to justify prosecutions of at least four of the suspects. One has since died. "The cases we investigated disclose horrific instances of mass murder," the report said, "and we do not consider the lapse of time since the offenses were committed, or the age of the offenders, pro- vides sufficient reason for taking no action. To take no action would taint [Britain] with the slur of being a haven for war criminals." The song's lyrics revive the accusation of Jewish responsibility for the crucifixion of Jesus, and implies that Jews have done the same to the song's nar- rator: Crucifixion ain't no fiction So-called chosen, frozen Apology made to whoever pleases Still they got me, just like Jesus. The words appear to refer to the storm of controversy surrounding the group last summer, when group member Richard ("Professor Allergy Associates Anonymous Jerome M. After Griffin's statements, the band's lead singer, Chuck ("Chuck D") Ridenhour briefly suspended Griffin from Public Enemy and then temporarily dissolved the group. But less than a month later, the group reassembled and Griffin was reinstated. In an interview on MTV last month, Ridenhour ad- dressed the issue of the up- coming record's revival of the canard of the Jews hav- ing killed Jesus. He said the idea "was based on Chris- tian belief, but not my own." Chiropractic Health Hints BY DR. STANLEY LEVINE, D.C. "SHOOTING PAINS." WHAT ARE THEY? If you are the victim of sciatica, you know what "shooting pains" are all about. The sometimes excruciating pain of sciatica frequent- ly affects the hip, thighs, and back of the leg. The ankle and foot are sometimes affected, too. But, that is not where the problem is located. The sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body, extends from the lower spine to the back of the thigh and knee. Then it divides. One nerve goes down the front of the lower leg; the other travels down the back of the leg. It is the inflammation of the sciatic nerve that causes the pain. The pain can be triggered by an irritated nerve root. The cause may be traced to a misalignment of the spinal column that is placing abnormal pressure on the roots of the sciatic nerves as they pass between the vertebrae. Through X-rays and other procedures, the Doctor of Chiropractic can locate misaligned vertebrae. Using gentle adjustment, the doctor can align it properly again to help eliminate the cause and the pain. Don't Live With Pain. We Can Help!
