NEWS I KOSHER NOTICE FROM PRINGLE'S. The Pringle's Brand has for the past 15 years proudly offered products certified by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America as Kosher. Currently, there are seven Pringle's varieties which are certified and labeled as Kosher products: Original, Sour Cream 'N Onion, Light Original, Light B-B-Q, Idaho Rippled Original and Idaho Rippled French Onion Potato Chips and Fresh Roasted Corn Crisps. One of the few Pringle's items which is not certi- fied as Kosher is Light Ranch Potato Chips, which does not typically carry a Kosher symbol. The sea- soning mix used in preparing this product contains a very small amount of a non-kosher ingredient similar to that used in many cheese flavored salted snacks. The package design for this product was recently changed and, in the process, the CD symbol was inad- vertently added by our packaging supplier to the label of some Light Ranch product. The majority of the product was stopped before reaching the market. We deeply regret this error and are in the process of taking corrective action working with the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America. This action includes correcting the label on all product in our control, withdrawal of product, and alerting con- sumers through advertising and shelf notices. We invite anyone who has this product to return it to their store for a refund or exchange for another Pringle's product. Again, we regret any inconvenience and hope you will continue to enjoy our Pringle's products. It was nearly four times as large as the 1988 total of 18,965 and almost nine times as large as the 1987 total of 8,155. The December figures also reflect a new trend: an up- surge in the number of ( ( Teddy Kollek: 100,000 new neighbors? 1-14.4,44& 5 % OFF ALL FALL/WINTER MERCHANDISE Crosswinds Mall Orchard Lake Road at Lone Pine West Bloomfield 626.7690 Soviet Jews deciding to set- tle in Israel, largely as a result of tighter U.S. im- migration policies. Of the 8,690 Jews who left the Soviet Union as refugees last month, 3,590, or 41 per- cent, went to Israel. The percentage was a huge increase from the figures of the previous 11 months, when the percentage of Soviet Jewish emigres going to Israel did not climb above 20 percent. Officials at Jewish agen- cies involved with Soviet Jews expect the percentage of emigres settling in Israel to remain high in the coming months, since those intent on coming to the United States must now apply in Moscow for U.S. visas, which are scarce. In related news, Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir and Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek discussed the pro- spects of absorbing between 100,000 and 150,000 im- migrants in the capital over the next three years. According to unofficial estimates, a quarter of a million Soviet Jews are ex- pected to arrive in Israel ITA000.1. N N
