Robinson says. "For exam-
ple, that's why some of the
suppers will be at the Center
— because we realize work-
ing parents may find them-
selves in a tight crunch bet-
ween getting home from
work and picking up the
athlete-guests."
Between now and mid-
August, when the JCC and
the Detroit Maccabi Club
host the North American
Youth Games for the second
time in the event's eight-
year history (the first time
was 1984), Robinson, Eisen-
shtadt and their speakers'
bureau will be stepping up
their activities.
There will be more coffees
for Jewish organizations
around town and
phonathons are scheduled
for February and March.
Robinson said some of Mac-
cabi's volunteers will con-
duct phonathons and assist
'other organizations in call-
ing their memberships to
solicit housing.
"Our goal is to approach
every Jewish family in
Detroit," Robinson says.
Says Eisenshtadt, "It
(hosting an athlete) is the
chance of a lifetime. It's an
experience they will never
forget. They will gain the
friendship of families in
other cities in the United
States and around the world
and they will make friend-
ships for a lifetime.
"It's an exhilarating expe-
rience for families," she
adds. "And besides, this
shows the unity of the com-
munity. A family will feel
left out of what is going on in
their city"if they don't serve
as hosts.
Robinson says a recent
coffee at the home of Bob and
Judy Rubin in Huntington
Woods drew a good response.
"We're doing nicely there.
It's a very close, nice com-
munity and the people are
really enthusiastic."
She says she hopes those
who have taken housing ap-
plications will complete
them and send them in.

tions or additional informa-
tion can call the Maccabi of-
fice, 661-1000, Ext. 296.
