FAITH ANN WARSHAW,
formerly of Detroit, died Jan.
3 in Scottsdale, Ariz. She is
the mother of Jennifer of
Tempe, Ariz. and Jonathan of
Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter of
Dorothy and Stanley Wolf;
sister of Elliott and Kenneth
Wolf of Denver, Colo. Services
and interment in Scottsdale.

Solomon Birnbaum

(JTA) — Jewish scholar
Solomon Birnbaum, who
devoted a lifetime of work to
the study of Jewish languages
and who is credited with
establishing the age and
authenticity of the Dead Sea
Scrolls, died in Tbronto Dec.
28. He was 98.
Birnbaum's specialization
was the development of the
Hebrew script, and he wrote
several studies of Jewish
languages, including "The
Hebrew and Aramaic Ele-
ment in the Yiddish
Language;" "Outline of
Hebrew Paleography;" "Yid-
dish: A Survey;" and "Gram-
mar and the Hebrew Scripts."
He chronicled the develop-
ment of Yiddish beginning in
the ninth century, and also
helped develop a Yiddish
spelling system, which was
used in religious Jewish
schools in pre-war Poland.
Birnbaum was the eldest
son of Nathan Birnbaum,
who coined the term
"Zionism," and the father of

Jacob Birnbaum, founder of
the Center for Russian
Jewry/Student Struggle for
Soviet Jewry.

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe
the yahrzeits of the following departed friends, with the
traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish and stu-
dying of mishnayos.

Melvin Binder

Melvin Binder, 59, of West
Bloomfield, died Jan. 6
Mr. Binder was the owner
and president of Sun Lite
Manufacturing Co. Founded
in 1937, the company
specialized in governmental
contracting, manufacturing
lighting fixtures and post of-
fice equipment.
He owned the Double Steve
Stables and 16 race horses.
Mr. Binder leaves his wife
Geraldine; sons and a
daughter-in-law, Dr. Steven
and Lisa of Farmington Hills
and Richard of West Bloom-
field; daughter, Susan Binder
Kleiman of Calif.; brothers
and a sister-in-law, Burton
and Jeanne of Sanibel, Fla.
and Robert of Franklin; two
grandchildren.

Mr. Kosins was co-owner of
Kosins Clothes and was in
business for 40 years with two
stores in Southfield. He earn-
ed a Purple Heart and Silver
star during the Battle of the
Bulge in World War II, was
man of the year 1984 City of
Hope, was a member of Bale
Post Jewish War Veterans
and Congregation Adat
Shalom.
Mr. Kosins leaves his wife,
Marilyn; sons and daughters-
in-law, Dr. Mark and Judy of
San Clemente, Calif., Dr.
David and Lois of Seattle,
Wash.; daughter, Kathy of
Birmingham; brother, Ben of
West Bloomfield; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Sally and
George Zalman of West
Bloomfield, Fay and Don
Wish of Akron, Ohio; and two
grandchildren.

Michael B. Haber

Michael B. Haber, 46, of
Bloomfield Hills, died Jan. 7.
Mr. Haber was an attorney
and assistant general counsel
in labor relations with AAA
for 20 years. He was a
member of the Michigan and
American Bar Associations
and Temple Emanu-El.
He leaves his wife Lynda; a
son Mason; daughter
Caroline; his mother, Ger-
trude of Troy; brother and
sister-in-law, Kenneth and
Kathleen of Gaithersbrug,
Md.; and three stepchildren,
Clifford, Brian and Joshua
Greenblatt.
