— shows the Jewish tourist
other sites. North of Beth
Tzedec is the ornate facade of
Holy Blossom Temple, Toron-
to's largest Reform
synagogue. The bus also
passes the headquarters of
the National Council of
Jewish Women of Canada and
Baycrest Center, a complex
, that is a residence for the
Jewish elderly.
It takes a while to reach
4588 Bathurst. There on the
corner is the headquarters of
Jewish culture in Canada.
Outside the Jewish Com-
munity Center building is a
sculpture, "Jacob Wrestling
with the Angels," by Jewish
artist Nathan Rapoport.
Inside is the Leah Poslums
Theater, which mounts five
full-scale productions each
season and is considered
among the best Jewish
theaters in North America.
There are also facilities for
sports, modern offices and a
swimming pool.
The building next door is
even more a Jewish culture
center. The Lipa Greene
Building has a cultural wing
which includes a library,
museum, photo exhibit and
Holocaust Memorial and
Education Center, featuring a
slide presentation, "Images of
the Past," a display on
Nazism and a half-hour
documentary.
This is also the place to
glimpse Toronto's Jewish
history. On the walls of one
corridor are large black-and-
white photographs which
form a gallery of Canada's
Jewish past.
There's the photo of the
Jewish farmer in his cornfield
in Galt, taken in 1915, and
another of the old-fashioned
drug store on Spadina Avenue
in the early 1920s. In another,
members of Mount Sinai
Hospital Ladies Auxiliary
pose primly for a 1925 photo.
Still another shows Joseph
Gary's grocery Store on Col-
lege Street in 1935.
These images of the Jewish
past, displayed in a modern
and full facility Jewish
culture center, are a reminder
of the progress Jews have
made in one of Canada's
leading — and most intense-
ly Jewish — cities.

FOR THE PARTY
THEY'LL ALWAYS REMEMBER

A Polaroid photo is a continuing reminder of a
great time at your party -- Bar Mitzvahs, Weddings,
Birthdays -- You name it. Give your guests one of
these custom-designed frames, or choose from
many other fun souvenirs.
