Temple, Midrasha
To Hold Courses

The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies and Temple
Emanu-El are co-sponsoring a
series of weekly courses from
Jan. 8 to 29.
Rabbi Lane Steinger of
Temple Emanu-El will teach
a course entitled, "The Mitz-
vah of Marriage/Mixed or
Otherwise." Rabbi Steinger
will discuss what makes a
good marriage according to
the Jewish religion and
whether a marriage between
a Jewish person and a non-
Jewish person will be
recognized. The course will
meet at 7 p.m.
Rabbi Bruce D. Aft,
Midrasha director and Com-
munity Jewish High School
principal, will teach "The
Many Faces of Judaism:
Reform, Reconstructionist
and Conservative Judaism in
American Jewish Life;' at 8
p.m. Rabbi Aft will discuss
the similarities and dif-
ferences between these
movements.
Rabbi David Feder of Tem-
ple Emanu-El will teach a
course entitled, "Wisdom of
the Ages through the Eyes of
the Sages," at 8 p.m. Rabbi
Feder will discuss how Jews
use the Torah to determine a
way of life.
The courses will be held at
Temple Emanu-El. There is a
charge per course.

JPI Sets
Adult Classes

The Jewish Parents In-
stitute, an affiliate of the
Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will
hold a class titled "Ethics and
Jewish Identity for Adults,"
12:45 to 1:45 p.m. on Sunday
mornings, Jan. 7 through Feb.
25, in Room 329 of the Maple-
Drake building. No class will
be held on February 18.
The instructor for the
course is Ellen Reina. There
is a charge.
JPI will also hold a class for
adults titled "The Develop-
ment of Jewish Law"
touching on the Torah,
Mishnah, Gemara, Mishnah
Torah, Shulchan Aruch, and
Mishna Breura.
Specific issues such as the
legal relationship of men and
women, Jewish law and
modern technology, medicine
and abortion will be discuss-
ed. The instructor for this
course is Yehudit Rabinowitz.
Sessions will be from 11:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room
129 of the Maple-Drake
