didn't give up until we got what we were prom-

Now Rothstein says although she is a
dreamer, she won't quit working until she is
satisfied.
"I always knew this highway would come
through," she says. "I just didn't know when.
It is fantastic for everyone. I always looked at
the highway as a positive venture for our city."
The city's losses from its tax base may be
recovered with some of its new developments
— which Rothstein and county development
experts say were built solely because of the
highway.
Opening in March will be the new
Parkwoods Plaza at the corner of 10 Mile and
Coolidge roads — which abuts a highway en-

With the highway in mind, Parkwoods de-
velopers Alan Singer and Michael Gorge 2 1/2
years ago purchased the old Dexter-Davison
center and eight neighboring homes to build a
larger, upscale shopping plaza.
"The market needed it," Singer says.
"I don't think anyone has a real handle on
how far people will drive," Gorge says, adding
they expect most shoppers to come from Hun-
tington Woods, Berkley and parts of
Southfield.
Also new to Oak Park is a Kmart store on
Greenfield Road in Lincoln Center and a
Michigan Trade Exchange on Coolidge in the
former Oak Park Lanes bowling alley. Village
Green Apartment developers, in the past few
years, have renovated an apartment complex
in Oak Park.
"We're connected now," Rothstein says.
"People want to come into our city." ❑

make it easier for patrons
from all over to frequent
the city's only kosher deli.
