SHELDON (Shelly) Kaplan, chief of neurology at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Allen Park and foundei' of its sleep disorders lab and clinic af- filiated with Wayne State Medical School where he serves as associate professor of neurology, presented his work in a national sleep reserach congress which con- vened in Washington, D.C. After the scientific meetings that included researchers from Israel, Japan and the Soviet Union, Shelly and wife Rachel spent time with their son Gilead (Gil) who is minority consul- tant to African affairs sub- committee of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee . . . Gil's expertise lies most- ly in the Middle East . . . He received his bachelor's degree in Near East studies from Brandeis University and master's from the University of Chicago. While on an official visit, the congressional delegation had dinner at the lavish palace of Mobutu, leader of Zaire, plus spending time with Savimbi, Angolan rebel, and his people . . .
