Monetary penalties will be levied against anyone who publicly calls for disobeying the anti-discrimination law. Hailed by Comite Central Israelita, the Uruguayan Jewish representative body, and by human rights groups, the landmark legislation pro- mises to further safeguard the rights of minority com- munities and to consolidate the rebirth of democracy in Uruguay. It was passed unanimously by all of the con- gressmen who were present in both houses of the Uruguayan parliament for the voting session.
