Meyer W. Leib, 78, founder
of Leib, Leib and kramer, of
Southfield, died Dec. 16.
Mr. Leib graduated from
the Detroit College of Law in
1943 and practiced law in
Detroit for 46 years. He was
past president of Pisgah B'nai
B'rith Lodge in 1949, a
member of Oakland Century
Lodge B'nai B'rith, member
of Zionist Organization of
America, Schiller-Daylight
Masonic Lodge No. 263.
Mr. Leib also received the
Distinguished Service Award
for volunteer lawyers and
spearheaded a fund-raising
campaign in 1948 for the
newly formed State of Israel.
He leaves his wife, Helene;
daughters and sons-in-law,
Fran and Bruce Finsilver of
West Bloomfield, Lori and Dr.
Marc Lee of Phoenix; a
brother and sister-in-law, Dr.
Sidney and Marion of West
Bloomfield; sisters and
brother-in-law, Tillie and
Charles Weiner of Southfield
and Carolyn Kramer of West
Bloomfield; and five grand-
children.

Dr. John Slawson
Dr. John Slawson, the se-
cond executive director for the
Jewish Welfare Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, died
Dec. 12 in New York. He was
93.
Dr. Lawson, who led the
Detroit Federation from 1928
to 1932, retired in 1967 after
a life of service to the Jewish
community. He was executive
vice president of the
American Jewish Committee
for 24 years and was the
emeritus director until his
death.
He was founder of the
American Jewish Commit-
tee's Institute of Human Rela-
tions and was part of a
delegation that met in 1957
with Pope Pius XII, the first
audience ever accorded a
Jewish organization by the
Vatican.
He also taught in New York
and at the Univeristy of
Michigan.
He is survived by his wife,
Ada; daughters, June Kopilow
of New York, Ruth Kaufman
of Los Angeles and Judith
Slawson of Manhattan; three
grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
