The Raiz family has been waiting for 17 years for per- mission to emigrate to Israel. Vladimir Raiz was work- ing for the Institute of Mo- lecular Biology in 1973 when he first applied for an exit visa to Israel; Karmella was employed as first violinist with the Vilnius Philharmonic Orchestra.
