Israeli Institute

Founds Yeshiva

The Schwartz Institute in
Israel announced the foun-
ding of Yeshiva Beth
Avraham Nachman in

Jerusalem, Israel. The
yeshiva is established in
memory of Rabbi Avraham
Nachman Schwartz, recogniz-
ed as the chief rabbi of
Baltimore during the 1930s.
The institute named Rabbi
Ephraim Poliakoff, a great-
grandson of Rabbi Schwartz,
the Rosh Yeshiva (Dean) of
the new institution.
The Schwartz Institute was
founded in Israel in memory
of Rabbi Schwartz, his wife,
Golda Miriam, and their son,
Dr. Joseph Schwartz. The aim
of the institute is to promote
Jewish learning and living.
The yeshiva is scheduled to
open next fall and is current-
ly accepting applications. In-
terested students should pro-
vide the following informa-
tion: name, address, phone
number, school attended, and
the name of their Rabbi or
Rosh Yeshiva. The informa-
tion should be sent to P.O. Box
15006, Baltimore, Maryland,
21208-0006.

New York (JTA) — Nearly
250 news clippings, pam-
phlets, photos, memoranda,
pamphlets, flyers and car-
toons have been documented
by the Zionist Organization
of America in a report called
"The Campaign to Discredit
Israel."
The study analyzes pro-
Arab strategy and tactics,
and the impact of anti-Israel
voices on college campuses.
"Israel is on the defensive,"
says Paul Flacks, executive
vice president of the ZOA,
who compiled the report.
Flacks said that some of
the most extreme examples
of anti- Israel propaganda,
sometimes bordering on an-
ti-Semitism, are editorial
cartoons appearing in daily
newspapers. The cartoons,
he said, depend on exaggera-
tion and simplicity at the
cost of historical context and
objectivity.

Matriculation-
Program Begun

Philadelphia (JTA) — The
Jewish Community High
School of Gratz College has
launched a program to
prepare Israeli teens in
Philadelphia to pass Israeli
bagrut (matriculation) ex-
ams, so that they can attend
Israeli universities.
