I NEWS I Wisconsin Poles Halt Dialogue Milwaukee (JTA) — The - Wisconsin state division of the Polish American.__Con- gress voted in September to "suspend the ongoing dia- logue conducted over the past several years with rep- resentatives of the Milwaukee Jewish com- munity." The announcement of the rupture by the Milwaukee- based congress came in a letter dated Nov. 7 and signed by the organization's president, Edward Wo- jtkowski. It was sent to Milwaukee Jewish Council Executive Director Judy Mann. The resolution gave as its rationale "the failure of our Jewish colleagues to discuss matters of vital mutual con- cern prior to stating their opinions publicly." The resolution referred to the Jewish Council's reac- tion to the remarks made in August by Cardinal Jozef Glemp, head of the Catholic Church in Poland, on the dispute over the Carmelite convent at Auschwitz. "This was more than hurt- ful," said Wojtkowski. "It was not doing justice to what Glemp was saying and to what that person means to the Polish American com- munity." Mann, however, said that she found the suspension of dialogue to be "confusing and surprising."
