Supersol Begins
Home Shopping

Ra'ananah — Computeriz-
ed grocery shopping with
home delivery has come to
Israel.
The Supersol supermarket
chain officially launched a
new program called "Tele-
Sol" in Ra'ananah and
Herzliyah. Orders are
registered by receptionists
sitting at computer ter-
minals in Ra'ananah.
Customers must place
their orders by telephone us-
ing a printed catalogue. The
goods are delivered within
four hours, and payment is
made by credit card.
Customers pay the usual
Supersol prices, plus an 8
shekel ($4) delivery fee if the
order is below 150 shekels
($75).
A Supersol executive said
other communities would be
added to the Tele-Sol linkup
within a month or so, and
estimated that within six
months, most of the country
will be covered.
The catalogue contains
about 1,600 items, each
identified by a four-digit
code. While the catalogue
includes only about 10 per
cent of the items available in
a regular Supersol branch,
the company says it covers
"all the most popular
items."
During a six-week start-up
period, the Tele-Sol system
has received an average of
50 orders a day. The typical
order ranges from 200 to 300
shekels ($100-$150) worth of
merchandise, Supersol offi-
cials said.

More Africans
To Renew Ties

Jerusalem — Three
African countries have
agreed to renew diplomatic
ties with Israel in conjunc-
tion with Ethiopia, and are
expected to announce their
decision soon, sources in
Jerusalem said.
Ethiopian envoy Kassa
Kabede told officials last
week that Addis Ababa had
agreed with the three coun-
tries — which he did not
name —that they would
renew ties shortly after
Ethiopia, which announced
its decision two weeks ago.
