University in December and
April each year.
Paikin, who makes the in-
itial nomination, recom-
mended Friberg and Kruger
from among seven can-
didates. Her recommenda-
tion was approved by a
Yeshiva University com-
mittee in New York, which
makes final decisions.
Two students will be
selected each- year to study
at Yeshiva, either at the
cantorial school or at the
seminary. Each student
receives $15,000 for his first
year from the foundation. In
subsequent academic years,
the sum is split 50-50 by the
university and the founda-
tion.
The scholarship provides
for tuition, books, living ex-
penses and round-trip travel
between the student's home
country and the United
States.
Gurock said Doron has
funded the program for
young Jews from all over,
including Eastern European
countries, but not students
from the United States and
Israel. ❑

Jerusalem (JTA) — A
group of 14 Likud Knesset
members has formed a bloc
around three hard-line min-
isters dissatisfied with
Prime Minister Yitzhak
Shamir's peace initiative
and the way he has handled
negotiaitions with the
United States.
The group, "Protectors of
Eretz Israel," supports
Shamir's most severe critics
in the Cabinet. They are
Minister of Industry and
Commerce Ariel Sharon and
David Levy, the construction
and housing minister, both
powerful members in
Shamir's Herut faction; and
Minister of Economics and
Planning Yitzhak Moda'i,
leader of Likud's Liberal
Party wing.
Levy, who also holds the
rank of deputy premier, en-
couraged the hard-line
caucus over the weekend.
He lashed out at Shamir's
handling of the diplomatic
process surrounding
American guidelines for an
Israeli-Palestinian dialogue,
namely the five points pro-
posed by Secretary of State
James Baker.
