But he has encountered resistance in his efforts to buy Clal, Israel's largest public investment company, despite support from Finance Minister Shimon Peres. The deal is opposed by Bank Hapoalim and the Israel Discount Bank. 0 00 0 o ° 0 0* *00 0 °0 THE JCC MONTHLY TEEN DANCE CLUB 4262 N.Woodward Ave. Royal Oak 549-1005 Levin, director of community planning and budget for the Associated Jewish Charities and Welfare Fund of Balti- more said interest is growing. The groups help couples deal with the social and emo- tional realities of mixed mar- riage in a non-judgmental, Jewish context, Levin said. Special groups for parents of intermarrieds focus on foster- ing Jewish identity grand- children. The project is now beginning to educate adoles- cents of dating age about the emotional, religious, com- munity and family issues in- volved in interdating and intermarriage. Steve Gelfand, associate ex- ecutive director of the Atlan- ta Jewish Federation, said more communities are going beyond the provision of serv- ices to see "what can be done to ensure Jewish survival. You'll see more and more be- ing done in this area:' He said intermarried families will be the subject of a blue ribbon commission that will examine assimilation and recommend specific steps to counter it. "We're just beginning to look at this," he said. "It takes a while in the public sector to move forward." Rabbi Cowan suggested that communities offer more workshops for intermarried couples and for those con- sidering mixed marriage so the couples can better under- stand what is involved. "At the time people marry, they're usually furthest from their families and traditions. They tend to say, 'This isn't an issue. We're Americans: If they prepare together in a workshop, they're better equipped to deal with the con- flicts when they do arise." Despite the information in- troduced by this study, the researchers said, "We still don't know a lot about what cause intermarriage and divorce. We also know nothing about the impact of intermarriage on children." 00 0 0 0 0 "0 *0 * 0_ 2 0 ?.0 . - 0 ,-0 0 00 0 o0 4 presents Marcasite-Earrings-Dins-bracelets- Bangles-Neck laces•8ilver • December's Hot Rock Featuring the Hot Sounds of Sound Illusion SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2 8:00 p.m. JCC Maple/Drake (JCC Members $4.00 / Non-Center Members $5.00 You must bring your ICC membership cards with you.) coupon This entitles you to $1.00 Off of the admission price to the •******************************************** Heating and Maple/Drake GET READY 10 ROCK!
