"Israelis perceive them-
selves as being cute," he

in the media here for many
years. They take it for
granted that no matter what
they say or how they say it,
they are going to be liked by
the audience. It's a mistake

"Israelis need to be trained
on how to present them-
selves," Ben-Eliezer con-
tinued. "They get on
American TV and blab
away. They don't even listen
to the questions and they
know the answers already.
Communicating on TV is a
craft, a skill. They should
learn."
Some of the politicians
graded above score better
when they are interviewed
in Hebrew, Ben-Eliezer said.
That holds particularly true
for former Prime Minister
Menachem Begin, who,
while earning only a Cu for
his English efforts, gets an Ai
for the image he projects
when speaking Hebrew.
The late Golda Meir earns
a solid Blin both Hebrew and

Paris (JTA) — Part in-
structional and part country
fair, a daylong Yom Hatorah
drew nearly 50,000 Jews
from all over France to a
Paris suburb Sunday, much
to the delight of Chief Rabbi
Joseph Sitruk, who organiz-
ed the event to bring French
Jews back to the faith.
People came from as far
away as Lille and Marseille,
to visit stands promoting
Jewish foods and displays of
religious ritual objects,
periodicals, books and even
furniture.
They listened to lectures
on Judaism and heard ap-
peals to return to religious
ways.
Sitruk explained that Yom
Hatorah was intended to
demonstrate that "Jews
have a place in a
multicultural society."
