roast beef — Mountain Jack's
in Southfield.
"We weren't disappointed in
the food. But our waitperson
dampened our spirits. This is
in no way typical of the
restaurant to which we
return again and again.
"Our server appeared to be
distracted. It was early in the
evening and the restaurant
wasn't busy. But we waited
several minutes before she
came to our table.
"We weren't in a hurry, but
we were being ignored. When
she finally brought our
drinks, we tried to engage her
in conversation but she disap-
peared with nary a smile.
"This set the pace for the
rest of the meal. She took our
orders perfunctorily, served
them the same way and never
once asked if everything was
satisfactory. It was as though
we were the unwanted guests
of an unwilling hostess.
"The roast beef was done to
perfection, but we didn't enjoy
the dinner. Because our
waitperson ignored us, we
had to ask others for coffee
and even the cheek.
"When customers are rude
and demanding, we can
understand the frustration of
waitpersons who reflect their
resentment in their attitudes.
"But when this is unwar-
ranted, it can really be a tur-
noff for patrons. The waitper-
son may not only get a
smaller tip, but he or she can
ruin it for the business which
relies on staisfied customers."
