Crazy Clarence says,

"The General Dynamics-
Tadiran arrangement is the
essence of our strategy," he
says. "To show foreign com-
panies that not only do we
have world-class high tech
products at a reasonable price
to sell them, but that it is
worthwhile for them to have
an 'Israeli component' to
their overall international
business strategy."
Because of the threat of the
Arab boycott, Alon is having
a more difficult time convin-
cing Japanese, German,
Italian and French
automobile makers to procure
some of their spare parts or
other equipment from Israeli
companies to balance a $1
billion vehicle import bill.
They claim that there is no
substantial manufacturing
capacity in Israel; however,
contrary to what they do
elsewhere, they are not in-
terested in assisting local in-
dustry in order to create such
a capacity. Additionally, their
local sales agents are forbid-
den to procure parts from
Israeli companies.
"We don't expect these com-
panies to invest in plants here
but we do believe that they
should be assisting our local
industry just as they do in
countries which import far
less from them than Israel
does," Alon says. ❑
