"PROBABLY THE WORST THING I EVER DID"
"I hate to go out to dinner, period! I had a million excuses.
The food's no good. The food's good, but over-priced. The
food's o.k., but the place is too far. The food and music are
lousy. The service is horrible. Last week I ran out of excuses."

QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY IS OUR PRIORITY!
ast year, her step-
mother was an alien.
This year, her
housekeeper is a witch.
Some very strange things,
indeed, have happened to
Alyson Hannigan since she
left Atlanta three years ago
and moved to Hollywood to
pursue her dream. And in
the process, she has become
a celebrity.
Hannigan's career began
in her parents' commercial
photography studio when
she was a baby, posing with
different products and wear-
ing the latest toddler fash-
ions whenever a company
needed a model.
As Hannigan grew, she en-
joyed being in front of the
camera so much that her
mother, Emilie Posner,
hired an agent.
Today, the 15-year-old
Hannigan, who hasn't an
ounce of Irish blood —"My
dad's real last name was
Field, but his stepfather
adopted him, so his last
name was changed" — stars
as Jessie Harper on ABC's
comedy, "Free Spirit."
The show features Corinne
Bohrer as the housekeeper
witch. And Hannigan almost
needed a witch to get the job;
she competed with several
actresses.
"I went in and read for all
of the producers and every-
body and got a call back,"
she said. "But they decided
to cast another girl to do the
pilot." Just as she thought
"Free Spirit" was out of the
picture for her, Hannigan's
phone rang. "They wanted
me to audition again. I read
with Corinne (Winnie, the
witch), and the next day I
found out I was going to
network, the last step in get-
ting the part," she said.
"That night, I was chosen."
Maybe her reading with
the show's witch put a magic
spell on the producers to get
them to cast Hannigan in
the Harper role. Or maybe it
was her TV character's
name, Jessie — a name all
too familiar to Hannigan.
Jessie was her character's
name in My Stepmother Is
An Alien, a movie in which
Hannigan starred last year
with Dan Akroyd and Kim
Bassinger. For this part, one
of the largest female roles
ever written for a 13-year-
old, Hannigan beat out more
than 1,000 other girls for the
job.
In the movie, her widower
dad, Akroyd, marries an
alien, Bassinger. Dad,
however, doesn't know his
new wife is from another
