law for about five seconds,"
recalled Herzlinger.
At age 19 she helped her,
mom design leather and
suede outfits from the Santa
Fe area. In her early twen-
ties, Herzlinger decided to go
to New York and break out
on her own.
"There is no textbook to
teach you this industry," she
said. She rolled up her
sleeves and began working
for major Seventh Avenue
industries by selling $6.99
polyester dresses.
After a few years selling
and designing, Herzlinger'
opened her own business.
She believes the business is
instinctive, and with her
family background, design-
ing is natural for her. She
still encounters people who
associate her name with her
family. Herzlinger admits:
"That's a big shoe to step
into." ❑

Detroit Section, will be spon-
soring two Drop-In Discussion
Groups from 7:15 to 9:30 p.m.
On Wednesday at the SPACE
office, the topic will be,
"Learning to Trust Again."
On Nov. 22, the topic is "Get-
ting Through the Holidays."
During November, SPACE
will be offering a Special
Divorce Support Group for
Long-Term Marriages.
Meetings will be 7:15 to 9:30

This group will be in addition

and widowed support groups.
