200 Added To Roster
As Hall's Dinner Nears

"COUNT
ME
IN!"

RICHARD PEARL

Staff Writer

O

n the eve of its an-
nual dinner, the
Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame has
added 200 new members.
The now 300-member
roster is the largest in the
Hall's five-year history, ac-
cording to Mark Unger, the
Hall's executive director.
A membership campaign,
spearheaded by Shirley
Foon, widow of Hall founder
Al Foon, was conducted by
mail, with a minimum
membership fee of $36, Foon
said.
"People were wonderful.
This was a dream that Al
had and people loved him so
and love what the Hall
stands for. I was so over-
whelmed and touched with
the response," she said.
The Jewish Sports Hall
doesn't make money on its
annual dinners, she said, but
there will be a silent auction
of 20 items at this year's
function, scheduled for 6

If you are Jewish and live in the Metro Detroit area,
you could receive a call soon from a professional
interviewer as part of a population survey.

Your response will help our community:

• Expand services to you and'your family

• Plan for future generations

This scientific survey is not-a request for contributions, and responses are
completely confidential.
.

As the findings are analyzed, published reports will be shared with the
community: They will provide insight on Jewish attitudes, interests and needs.

Market Opinion Research, Inc. will conduct the survey. For more information, contact
the Jewish Welfare Federation Planning Department, 965-3939.

WE TAKE EXCEPTION
TO WHAT YOUR
MOTHER TAUGHT
YOU.

YOU SHOULDN'T EAT
EVERYTHING PUT IN
FRONT OF YOU.
You should avoid foods high in
cholesterol. It's a fact, a high
blood cholesterol level sub-
stantially increases your
chances of developing heart
disease. By cutting down on
fatty, rich foods, you can do
yourself a big favor. You could
lower your blood cholesterol
level and reduce your risk of
heart disease.

For more information about a
planned and balanced diet,

Association. We'll give you
some free advice on how to
plan a diet good for life.

p.m. Monday at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek.
"We bring in celebrities
and that's so costly that
we've lost money at times,"
she said. "The only way we
can earn money for our pro-
grams is through the
membership drive and other
contributions." She added it
was her late husband's idea
that the dinner not be a fun-
draiser, "So if we come out
even, we're happy."
Reservations for this
year's annual dinner,
scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday
at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, totalled 600 by Tues-
day morning — some 70
more than attended last
year's dinner, Unger said.
In addition to honoring
distinguished Michigan
Jewish athletes, the Hall of
Fame, in conjunction with
the Jewish Community
Center, sponsors the Hall of
Fame Games for area Jewish
developmentally disabled
residents and also makes
contributions to the Maccabi
Games movement.
