Do You Know
Mitzvah People
In Our Midst?
Chuck Pearlstein
"That man deserves the highest honors who does
not ask for them, but performs worthy deeds."
"When Chuck Pearlstein is
asked to do something, he
makes it sound like you are
doing him a favor by asking
him ... Once in a while you
run into those very, very
special people. And Chuck is
special."
,
From Chuck Pearlstein, a humble 24-year-old who inspires people
more than twice his age with a range of goOd_deeds to Bessie Chase,
a pint-sized, 78-year-old dynamo of energy intimately involved with
more than a dozen charitable causes . . . From Holocaust survivor
Louis Kay, whose work inside and outside of the Jewish community
is highly appreciated to Fay Isackson, whose transcriptions of English
and Hebrew texts into Braille bring new vision to the blind, Jews
have been performing significant acts of charity and kindness with
little or no fanfare.
— Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg
Young Israel, Southfield
To honor those Jews in our midst who, through unusual or
extraordinary acts of personal charity and kindness, touch the lives
of Jews and non-Jews in the metropolitan Detroit area, and in the
hopes of having their actions inspire others in our community to
perform similar acts, The Jewish News will publish its second annual
Mitzvah Heroes special section.
We invite you to nominate a person or persons you may know for
this special honor. A panel of distinguished judges will select the
honorees, whose work will be featured in the special section.
Additionally The Jewish News will make a meaningful financial
contribution to the charities selected by the honorees, in their names.
Please fill out the form below, clip it, and return it with a description
of the acts or charity and kindness performed by the nominee. All
nominations must be received by Friday, November 10, 1989.
