BOROWITZ Acclaimed theologian Dr. Eugene Borowitz is Temple Beth El's Guest Lecturer for the Eighth Annual Hertz Institute. Dr. Borowitz is the author of a challenging new understanding of Judaism he terms "Covenant Theology." He depicts Judaism as a personal relationship between God and the people of Israel, as opposed to a system of Jewish law, the Jewish people's culture and universal. ethics. Currently the Samuel L. Falk Distinguished Professor of Education and Jewish Religious Thought at the New York School of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, he is also founder and editor of Sh'ma, a journal of Jewish responsibility.- Rabbi Borowitz was the first Jew to serve as President of the American Theological Society. He is the author of numerous books and articles. His 1974 work, The Mask Jews Wear, received the National Jewish Book Award in the field of Jewish thought.
