GRAC O3 ACC
IN
hen entertaining, indoors
or out, flowers can make a
big difference. The beauty
of flowers adds a gracious
accent to your home, patio or wherever
the party is held.
For elegant parties, clear glass and
crystal are now in vogue. Add mirrors
and candlelight and something ex-
citing happens.
Jack Smith, president of the Amer-
ican Institute of Floral Designers and
owner of a florist shop in Livonia, had
a glass centerpiece especially design-
ed for his customers. It's 30 inches tall,
with a flower holder on top. Smith says,
"You can see through it when it's in the
center of the table. The arrangement
hangs down from above. We put it on
a mirror for special effect."
Another option is to use several clear
vases and flowers in water arrange-
ments.

This dinner party centerpiece uses
tall candles to accent the gerbera
and white daisies, miniature
carnations, monkshood, statice, pink
lilies, wax flowers and alstroemeria.
Smith suggests a third option. Place
three to four mirrors down the center
of a large table, with glass vases and
votive candles on each. Light the
votive candles and the flames will be
reflected in the mirrors beneath.
What flowers to use? All-white is
especially elegant, Smith says. On the
large table, you might use white
freesias in one vase, white roses in
another, two tall Calla lilies in still
another; and perhaps four or five white
Queen Anne's lace in the last vase. If
the flowers don't match, that's OK.
Arrangements in glass have become
very popular. As a matter of fact, these
days so many customers want to use
their own crystal containers that the
shop has devised a special way to
carry out these orders. Floral designers
use plastic liners, according to the
dimensions provided by the customer.
