of today. McKnight's work was on the
back of Reader's Digest for a holiday
issue. John Powell is a mainstream
Impressionistic artist whose interiors
have a California flavor. R.C. Gorman
is a Southwestern artist whose
austere prints, which have Southwest-
ern color schemes and simple
designs, run between $2,000 and
$3,000.
Edna Hibel prints have been favor-
ites for years. The subject of her work
is Impressionistic mother and child
prints in the style of Mary Cassatt.
The issue price for a Hibel runs be-
tween $300 and $2,000.
"People like Sassone serigraphs,
which are brilliant colorful pieces
from California," says another art
dealer. "The Chinese artists, like Ting
Shao Kuang, are popular right now.
Their lithographs show stylized
techniques in intense colors that
come across with strong emotional
impact.
"People seem to buy for color"
she continues. "They feel good
about living with art that goes with
their decorations. An expensive piece
is worth the money if you feel good
every time you walk into the room
and look at it."
And there are always posters. "A
reproduction is a good choice if you
like it," she says. "The secret fre-
quently lies in the framing which can
present a work beautifully." And a
good quality poster is definitely affor-
