hire Edward C. Neubacher and Linda
Shears, ASID,of Modern Studio of In-
teriors in Birmingham. With a budget
of around $50,000, "we decided to put
some glitz and glamour into the suite,"
says Shears. "After all, it is a computer
company."
Modern Studio worked with Chris
Norris, Director of Corporate Corn-
munications/administration at Corn-
puware, and the suite was transform-
ed into a glittering 21st century
audiovisual jewel. A full wall of mirrored
bifold closet doors greets you at the
entrance, creating the illusion of space.
A jade custom-made curved sectional
sofa gives the room a feeling of flow;
the mirrored walls and neon-feature
stripes on the stepped soffets behind
the sofa give the room its glitz. Jade

ment. A large sculpted lucite signed
cocktail table is the perfect place for
drinks and hors d'oeuvres. A custom-
made wall-to-wall carpet in silver, jade,
garnet and indigo continues the color
scheme, as do down-filled accent
pillows on the sofa in a Frank Lloyd
Wright-type geometric print. "We knew
we wanted drama," says Shears. "We
saw the pillows first, and everything, in-
cluding the colors, came from that."
Extensive cabinetry was also
custom-made in a garnet high-gloss
laminate with a polished chrome reveal
and a jade high gloss feature stripe on
the drawers. One set of cabinets
houses the refrigerator, bar, ice maker
and storage; another encloses a com-
plete audiovisual center. The standard
bathroom space was upgraded, using
gray tile with garnet and teal feature
stripes, a low-boy toilet and a pedestal
sink in respberry. Custom lighting fix-
tures and towel racks were also add-
ed for guests' comfort.
Compuware's suite is used strictly for
corporate entertaining. "We provide a
certain environment in our offices that
our employees are proud of," says Nor-
ris. "We wanted to carry the same feel-
ing into our business/entertainment
facility. We are competing with others
for our clients' time, and we want to
