DNA Print
Lab Opens

Jerusalem — The first
laboratory of its type in-Israel
for positive identification of
people, animals or plants on
the basis of examination of
their DNA patterns is now in
operation at the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem
Faculty of Agriculture in
Rehovot.
The identification method,
called DNA fingerprinting,
was developed in England
and for the past few years also
has been used in other parts
of Europe and the U.S. Israeli
researchers have been able to
improve on the existing
method through development
Of a new DNA probe -with
characteristics superior to
that of probes currently in use
for plants. -and animals.
