The Friends of Afro Asian
Institute of Histadrut in
Israel will pay tribute to
Michigan Supreme Court
Justice Dennis W. Archer at
a testimonial dinner Monday
at the Westin Hotel.
In 1985, Justice Archer was
appointed to the Michigan
Supreme Court by Governor
James Blanchard. The follow-
ing year, he was elected to an
eight-year term. He is the
first black justice to sit on the
Court in nearly 20 years and
only the second in Michigan
history.
The Afro Asian Institute
was established in Israel in
1958 to provide a comprehen-
sive leadership training pro-
gram to peoples of Africa,
Asia and the Caribbean on
cooperatives, trade unionism
and democratic methods of
government based on social
justice. Included among the
17,000 graduates from 81
countries are black leaders
from South Africa, three
prime ministers and several
dozen cabinet ministers.
