Tickets are on sale for the
fifth annual Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame induction
dinner on Nov. 6 at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek.
Comedian Jack Carter will
be the featured speaker.
Eli Zaret, WJBK-TV 2's
sports director, will be master
of ceremonies. Zaret will
broadcast his 6 p.m. sport-
scast live from the pre-dinner
cocktail party.
New at this year's cocktail
party wil be a limited silent
auction, consisting of items
such a Ball Boy for a game
with the Pistons, a day at
training camp with the
Detroit Lions, and a set of
commemorative footballs
from the last four Super
Bowls.
During the dinner, three
outstanding athletes will be

inducted into the Michigan
Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
racquetball world champion
Mike Yellen; the late basket-
ball pioneer Jacob Mazer; and
the late Lou Handler, one of
the country's outstanding
professional boxing referees.
Mike Ilitch, founder and
chairman of the board of Lit-
tle Caesar's and the owner of
the Detroit Red Wings, will
receive the Alvin Foon
Memorial Award.

Karate Matches
Slated At Cobo

The North American
Karate Championships will
take place in Detroit's Cobo
Arena on Oct. 28.
This will be Michigan's first
major karate tournament,
with thousands of com-
petitors expected. The
$50,000 purse makes it the
richest tournament in the
United States.

evening competition are

Sports Medicine
Conference Slated

A sports medicine con-
ference for health profes-
sionals or anyone interested
in health and fitness is
scheduled for Saturday on the
Highland Lakes Campus of
Oakland Community College.
The program runs from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee in-
cludes a lunch bar.
Keynote speaker is Mar-
jorie Albohm, who will
discuss "Staying Healthy
While Getting Fit" and "The
Latest Update on Injury
Prevention."
Mini workshops are titled,
