4 7, NOW AT METROPOLITAN EYE SURGEONS Vietnamese Refugees Not Forgotten Despite the search for more refugee slots and more When it comes to cleaning your contact lenses, the best solution... is no solution. Soviet Jewry activists here remain sensitive to the needs of other groups. A case in point was a re- cent rally across the street from the White House in support of Indochinese refu- gees. A featured speaker at the event was David Harris, Washington representative for the American Jewish Committee and organizer of the massive 1987 mobiliza- tion for Soviet Jews. David Harris money for Jews seeking to leave the Soviet Union, "The rally was to support the Vietnamese American community in its call for pol- icies against forced repatria- tion," Harris said, "and to urge the administration to encourage other countries to stop rejecting these refu- gees." 9-Year-Vigil Could Set Record If the Guinness Book of Records kept statistics on po- litical demonstrations, the 19-year-old Soviet Jewry vigil across the street from the Soviet embassy would almost certainly deserve mention. "It definitely continues," said Buddy Sislen, Interna- tional Affairs coordinator for the Jewish Community Re- lations Council in Washington. "But there's been a refocusing of the vig- il; we now describe the goal in terms of calling attention to the continuing problem of long-term refuseniks. The vigil will continue until all long-term Refuseniks have been granted permission to leave the country." Sislen doubts that the re- cent rise in emigration has affected turnout at the vigil, which is staffed on a rotating basis by local synagogues, members of various Jewish organizations and Jewish of- fice workers on their lunch breaks. Mazon 'Dinner' Planned Plans for a "dinner without dinner" fund-raiser for Mazon, the Jewish response to hunger, are underway. The event is in- tended to both raise money for Mazon and to serve as a vehicle for raising the con- sciousness of young Jewish professionals. Tony-award winning actor Ron Silver has volunteered to serve as MC. Doug Mishkin, a well-known folksinger, has written a song about Mazon, "Sing For Your Supper," which will debut at the event, which will also feature elegant place settings and formal at- tire -- but no food. A month before the November 30 event, the group has already collected more than 30,000 for the an- ti-hunger group. "It's exceeded our best pro- jections," said Jonathan Kessler, a longtime pro- Israel activist and one of the event's originators. O ACUVUE. Always clean, fresh, and comfortable.
