mittee is reacting to the re-

cently completed Jewish
Welfare Board study of the
area and proposed expansion
of the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Jewish Community Center.
He said there is no timetable
for a decision, adding, "This
is a very important area in
our community and we want
to make it even better."
Larry Ziffer, planning di-
rector of Federation, said the
JWF is talking to several
parties. "We hope to
generate more interest. Now

B'nai Moshe will
have a meeting
Nov. 9 to vote on
the sale to
Federation.

we have time to come up
with something that is best

for the community."
The sale of the building to
Federation "removes it from
communal anxiety and will
have a salutary effect on
everything we are doing in
the area."
Rabbi E.B. "Bunny"
Freedman, administrative
director of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, said his school is
still interested in utilizing
the B'nai Moshe building.
"We are standing by and
watching. We would approve
of any use that would be
good for the neighborhood.
"But we obviously have
expansion needs and would
like to lease the space. If we
could work out the financial
needs we would love to par-
ticipate. There is nothing on
the table, but they know of
our interest and hopefully
they are looking at that as
one possibility."
Robert Roth, B'nai Moshe
past president, credits Fed-
eration President Mark
Schlussel for taking a
leadership role in the pur-
chase of the building.
Schlussel is chairman of
Federation's Neighborhood
Project advisory board.
"Obviously a lot of things
had to fall into place, but he
stepped in at the right
time," Roth said. "The feed-
back on Federation's pur-
chase of the building has
been overwhelmingly
positive."
For several years, Federa-
tion has been trying to
stabilize the Oak Park
-Southfield area by offering
no-interest loans to Jewish
families through its
Neighborhood Project.
The West Bloomfield
Township board on Monday
tabled site plan approval for
B'nai Moshe's proposed
synagogue building on
Drake Road south of Maple.

Roth said the board asked
for traffic impact informa-
tion and a study of a
drainage problem on adja-
cent property.
"It means we can't close on
the property as quickly as
we planned," Roth said, "but
it will only mean a few
weeks delay. Everything
else seems very much in
order."
B'nai Moshe will have a
congregational meeting
Nov. 9 to vote on the sale to
Federation. Roth said details
of the sale will not be
disclosed until the meeting.
B'nai Moshe Rabbi Alan
Meyerowitz said he would
like to maintain a daily mi-
nyan and a nursery school in
the Oak Park area after the
congregation moves.
He said residents of the
neighborhood around B'nai
Moshe are ecstatic about the
impending sale to Federa-
tion.
"They are confident the
Federation will do
something good with it," the
rabbi said. "They feel good
that the building will
amount to something, even
though they don't know
what it will be." ❑
